When it comes to modern IP telephony, companies typically rely on Voice over IP (VoIP) with SIP Trunks. But to take full advantage of a SIP Trunk, you need a phone system that manages extensions and routes calls.

If you want to continue using an existing phone system, the key question is whether the system is compatible with Voice over IP or SIP—or whether it can be upgraded to support these technologies.

Alternatively, every Easybell SIP Trunk includes a free Cloud PBX with five seats.

Your phone system is already IP-ready

If you’re already using an IP-enabled phone system, the answer is very simple:

Connecting your phone system to Easybell is no problem. Easybell is compatible with numerous IP phone systems. For many of them, compatibility has been certified by both the manufacturer and Easybell.

With our guides for all common phone systems, you can easily migrate to Easybell.

Your phone system is not IP-compatible

If your phone system does not yet support Voice over IP, you have several options:

Upgrade the phone system and add new hardware

With some phone systems, you can retrofit VoIP modules. However, this is usually very expensive, and the hardware is not very flexible, so it can only be adapted to your specific needs to a limited extent.

Use the Media Gateway

The most common method is certainly to connect a media gateway to the front end of your phone system. This gateway then “translates” Voice over IP (VoIP) for your old phone system. You’ll find instructions for several gateways in our Help section.

For simple ISDN systems, it’s often sufficient to use a router such as the FRITZ!Box as a gateway. You then simply connect the phone system to the appropriate port on the router and forward the desired phone numbers to the phone system. Please note that some FRITZ!Box models no longer have an S0 port. In this case, be sure to check beforehand whether the phone system absolutely must be connected to an S0 port.

However, it’s important to note that ISDN phone systems no longer meet current functional and security requirements. Therefore, we recommend a modern VoIP phone system for professional use!

On our website, you’ll find a detailed comparison of current phone systems, where you’re sure to find a model that suits your needs.
