Parallel use of two internet connections at the same time
Basically, an Internet connection - whether DSL, cable or fiber optic - always requires its own physical line.
This means that
- Only one Internet connection can be actively operated per line.
- If you want to use two connections at the same time, you need two independent lines.
Examples of the parallel use of Internet connections
Here you will find a list of the most common combinations.
Two DSL connections at the same time
If you already use an xDSL connection (ADSL or VDSL) and would like to order an additional DSL connection, the following requirements apply:
Technical requirements:
Your home must have a second in-house riser line - i.e. an additional copper pair from the in-house distributor (APL) to the home, including a separate telephone socket (TAE). This line must run completely independently of the first line.
If you are unsure about this, please ask your landlord, property manager or janitor directly. If in doubt, an electrician can check this up to the house distribution board.
Ordering:
If the requirements are met, the order can be placed as a new connection. After receiving the order, Easybell will check whether the technical requirements have been met.
Cable or fiber optic connection available, DSL additionally
If your current Internet connection runs via cable or FTTH (Fiber to the Home), you can usually order an additional DSL connection without any problems - provided that a telephone socket (TAE) is available.
Ordering:
Here too, the order is placed as a new connection. Parallel use is possible as different infrastructures are used.
DSL available, additional FTTH connection
If you already have a DSL connection, you can also order a fiber optic connection (FTTH) from Easybell.
Prerequisite:
The fiber optic line must be routed separately to the home and have its own fiber optic socket. You can see whether we offer FTTH at your address in our bandwidth guarantee.
Ordering:
The order is also placed as a new connection via our homepage. If it is available at your address, FTTH is available as an additional speed option.
For emergencies: LTE
If a second line is not available, LTE or 5G can be a good alternative for backup Internet access.
Important:
- Set up the LTE solution in good time and test it before you have to rely on it.
- Make sure you have sufficient data volume and stable network coverage.
- Many routers support hybrid or fallback functions that automatically switch to LTE if the main line fails.
Alternative: Connection takeover instead of second line
If only one line is available - i.e. no second copper wire or fiber optic line - you cannot use the existing line in parallel, but you can switch to Easybell by requesting a line takeover.
What does line takeover mean?
Easybell takes over the existing line. This is usually done without the need for a technician appointment - provided the line is already active and the technical requirements are met.
