In many cases, a remote connection is sufficient. This means that the line is activated from the exchange without you having to be at home.

So that you know when this works, we will first explain why a technician visit is sometimes absolutely necessary.

When is a technician appointment necessary?

An on-site visit is necessary if the line cannot be clearly assigned or the house wiring needs to be checked.

The technician switches your line at the APL (house connection) and checks the connection up to the telephone socket. If necessary, a socket will be installed or replaced.

When is it possible to switch without a technician?

A remote control works if the line path can be clearly assigned.

This is usually the case if:

  • An Internet connection is taken over
(e.g. change from the old provider including number porting)
  • In the case of a new connection, sufficient information about the previous contract holder is available
(name and telephone number of the previous tenant)

Tips for avoiding a technician appointment

A few details will increase your chances of a remote connection:

  • When ordering, provide all available data of the previous tenant (name, telephone number).
  • Check whether your apartment already has a TAE socket - this makes switching easier.

Why is Deutsche Telekom actually doing the switching?

The so-called "last mile " - i.e. the connection from the distribution box in your neighborhood to your telephone socket - belongs in most cases to Deutsche Telekom in Germany. It has the right to manage this line. This is why only Deutsche Telekom technicians are allowed to make physical changes to this line.
